Custom Subthemes

Main content start

The Stanford Sites environment allows for campus organizations to create design customizations on top of the default Stanford Basic theme and add that theme to one or many sites. These customizations are called "subthemes."

Creating a custom subtheme requires a design process and a development process. Once a subtheme is in production on one or more sites, we do require a maintenance contract for the subtheme so that it can be updated. Updates may be needed to adhere to new accessibility standards or Stanford branding guidelines, to react to changes in browser or javascript libraries, or to work with changes made on Stanford Sites.

Below are examples of custom subthemes. If you are interested in a custom subtheme for your organization, you can reach out using our New Service Request form.
