Link a profile to an external site

Main content start

You may wish to use the Person profile so that they appear in a list, but may not want to add any additional information to their Person profile page. In this case, youhave the option to link the profile straight out to an external source. When site visitors click on the person in a list or teaser, they will be directed off of your site to whatever URL you enter into the External Source field.

Common destinations include:

  • Personal website
  • Person page on the person's primary department website
  • Stanford Profile
  • LinkedIn page

Simply enter the URL in the External Source field to take advantage of this option. This link will be used whenever the Person appears in a List or Teaser.

Link to a Stanford Profile

A common external source is Stanford Profiles. Keep in mind that profiles on either system are sometimes set to "Stanford-Only." If your audience is primarily internal , the Stanford-Only profile may be appropriate. If your audience is primarily external, you may wish to avoid linking to pages they will be unable to access. Note the difference in the URL:

Publichttps://profiles.stanford.edu/<person's name>

Stanford-Onlyhttps://profiles.stanford.edu/intranet/<person's name>
