Basic Page Content Type
Basic Pages are the most flexible content type on Stanford Sites. Basic Pages can be used to make everything from an informational page that consists of mostly text or a media-rich landing page.
Basic Pages are the backbone of your site's structure, and typically form the basis for your site's main navigation. Your homepage is also a Basic Page. This guide covers everything you need to get started with Basic Page.
Create a Basic Page
To create a new Basic Page go to Content > Add Content > Basic Page.
Basic Page fields
Title
This is a required field and must be filled in before you can save or publish the page. We recommends titles be 70 characters or less and be unique. Having unique page titles is important for on-site search and for finding your page in the administrative interface. The page title will always be displayed as a Heading 1 (h1.)
Top Banner
Basic Pages have a Top Banner section, which is an optional field. You can select between two banner options which will appear above the page title or will replace it.
If you do not select a Top Banner, the page title will be the first element on the page. This page is an example of a Basic Page without a Top Banner.
Once you have edited the Top Banner, you can collapse the display while you edit the rest of your page. To collapse the banner, click on Collapse.
The Top Banner will always appear as collapsed when you first edit a page.
How to remove the Top Banner
The Top Banner can be removed by clicking on the second set of three dots and selecting Remove.
Body
The Body field is a standard text area, allowing for headings and structured content. It works just like a Text Area paragraph. It can contain text, images, videos, embeddables, and Google forms. If your page doesn't require Lists, Teasers, or other dynamically generated content, the Body field may be all you need.
Paragraphs
Paragraphs allows you to add layout sections to your new page. These sections can contain all paragraph types available on Stanford Sites. You can create rich layouts using Sections to turn your Basic Page into a complex landing page.
