3. Automated scanning tools
The use of automated web scanning tools (for example, Qualys web application scanning or accessibility scanners like LevelAccess, link checkers, etc.) on production websites hosted on Stanford Sites Drupal CMS is not permitted. Stanford Sites is a shared environment with traffic limitations set by the hosting vendor; automated scanning tools can create high-traffic events and have a negative impact on all websites hosted on the service as well as unexpected cost implications to the university.
One notable exception to this policy: the Stanford Office of Digital Accessibility supports the SiteImprove accessibility monitoring service, which is freely available to all website owners and can be set to scan production websites on Stanford Sites. Read more about this change.
